The Theater and Performing Arts Commission showcased the diversity of traditional arts in the Kingdom through a series of live performances as part of its participation in the Saudi Arabia Pavilion, which was designated as the “Guest of Honor” at the Damascus International Book Fair 2026. The initiative aims to introduce visitors to the Kingdom’s rich cultural heritage in its various historical forms and traditions.

During the fair, the Commission presented a selection of traditional arts representing different regions of the Kingdom. These performances were presented before audiences as part of an immersive cultural experience that included the Samri from the central region, the Khabiti from the western region, the Khatwa from the southern region, the Liwa from the eastern region, and the Rafihi.

The performances highlighted the distinctive characteristics of each art form, including its rhythm, group movements, traditional attire, and instruments used. They also demonstrated the connection of these arts to social occasions and celebrations, as well as their role in expressing the values, history, and diverse environments of Saudi society.

The Saudi Pavilion witnessed strong engagement from visitors, who were keen to watch the performances and experience their varied rhythms. The interactive experience aimed to strengthen direct engagement with the audience. Alongside the performances, several cultural activities were also organized, including a panel discussion exploring the heritage symbols and meanings found in traditional Saudi performing arts, featuring a group of experts and specialists.

The Commission’s participation forms part of its efforts to represent the Kingdom at major international cultural events and its continued commitment to highlighting Saudi Arabia’s historical depth and cultural diversity.
