Artificial Intelligence at the King Abdulaziz Public Library: A Methodological Approach to Reading the Future
Ahwal Al-Ma'rifa – Special
Artificial intelligence (AI) has brought about a major transformation in science and human thought, with its far-reaching impact on humanity becoming increasingly evident in recent years. Its applications now extend across virtually every area of life, including science, the arts, medicine, engineering, business, economics, law, knowledge, literature, writing, media, healthcare, industry, transportation, e-commerce, finance, education, entertainment, and many other fields in which AI is driving innovation and development to unprecedented levels.
AI in the Library Collection:
The King Abdulaziz Public Library holds more than 200 books on artificial intelligence as part of its collection. These works examine various aspects of AI and its role in shaping the future of societies and nations. Among the notable titles are: Artificial Intelligence and Its Diverse Applications in Different Fields of Work, compiled and edited by Shaker Abdul Mousa; Life 3.0: Being Human in the Age of Artificial Intelligence by Max Tegmark, translated by Dr. Laila Al-Mousawi; Artificial Intelligence Between Security Applications and Criminal Evidence: Nature and Implications by Brigadier General Dr. Tariq Juma Mahdi; Artificial Intelligence: Prospects and Applications in Modern Management by Dr. Alaa Mohammed Saei; Artificial Intelligence and Business Process Reengineering in Organizations by Dr. Maryam Al-Shamsi; The Legal Strategy for Artificial Intelligence and Its Applications by Dr. Mohammed Hamdi Abdul Alim Allam; Surviving in the Age of Artificial Intelligence by Calum Chace, translated by Ahmed Fadl; and Criminal Liability for Artificial Intelligence: Self-Driving Cars as a Model—A Comparative Study by Mustafa Mohammed Abdul Hussein Al-Abbasi. These and other titles demonstrate how artificial intelligence, whose early development began more than three decades ago, has now entered virtually every sphere of modern life.
Interestingly, the late former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger also co-authored a book on artificial intelligence titled The Age of AI: And Our Human Future, together with Eric Schmidt and Daniel Huttenlocher, translated into Arabic by Ahmed Hassan. The book examines the challenges humanity faces in the age of artificial intelligence, highlighting both its potential benefits and its risks.
Logistics:
The breadth of AI applications is reflected in the wide range of titles published on the subject. These include What Comes After the Revolution in Educational AI Quality? by Prof. Dr. Manal Al-Balqaasi; Supply Chain Management and AI Logistics by Dr. Dalia Mohammed Younes; Artificial Intelligence and Its Impact on Justice: The Robot as Judge and Lawyer by Dr. Abdul Wahab Mohammed Abdul Wahab Al-Sada; Communication in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Avatars Enter the Worlds of the Metaverse by Prof. Dr. Amani Albert; Artificial Intelligence and the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights: A Comparative Analytical Study by Dr. Khaled Mamdouh Ibrahim; Strategic Management and Artificial Intelligence: An Institutional Vision in a Changing World by Dr. Zakaria Salem Suleiman Ibrahim; Artificial Intelligence and People with Special Needs by Mona Adel Abdo; Data Transformation: Artificial Intelligence from Laboratories to Screens—180 Practical Applications by Dr. Taher Mohammed Amin; Artificial Creativity: Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Art and Cultural Industries, compiled and translated by Dr. Howaida Saleh; and Administrative Governance and Artificial Intelligence by Prof. Dr. Mazen Hadi Kazar Al-Taie, Dr. Ban Saif Al-Din Mahmoud Al-Shahdani, and Dr. Mohammed Asim Ghazi.
The King Abdulaziz Public Library has also published a book titled Artificial Intelligence Technologies and Expert Systems by Lancaster, W. Amy, and Warner. The Arabic translation examines applications of artificial intelligence and expert systems in libraries and information centers. The applications of AI are now so extensive that they are virtually impossible to enumerate, as the technology has become relevant to most areas of modern life. The book discusses current and emerging applications in libraries and information centers, including cataloguing, indexing, and acquisitions. It also covers intelligent technologies beyond the library sector that are nevertheless relevant to library and information services, such as intelligent text processing, automated text classification, text extraction, and automated summarization, as well as applications in fields such as medical diagnosis and financial systems.
With the Ministry of Culture's announcement that 2026 has been designated the Year of Artificial Intelligence, the government's strong commitment to this field is becoming increasingly evident. AI has become a major component of numerous areas of contemporary life. The King Abdulaziz Public Library has also announced that the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Award for Translation will introduce a category titled the Translation Award for Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies in its new edition.
