The Board of Trustees of the King Abdullah International Award for Translation reviews the works nominated for the award.
The Board of Trustees of the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Award for Translation held a meeting today at the King Abdulaziz Public Library in Riyadh. Chaired by the Acting Chairman of the Board, H.E. Mr. Faisal bin Abdulrahman bin Muammar, the meeting focused on discussing the Scientific Committee’s final report regarding the works nominated for the award’s 11th cycle. During the meeting, the Award’s Secretary-General, Dr. Saeed bin Fayez Al-Saeed, outlined the procedures followed by the judging committees to evaluate the nominated works across all award categories. This evaluation assessed criteria such as scholarly originality, intellectual value, translation quality, adherence to intellectual property rights, and the extent to which the works align with the award’s objectives—namely, fostering intellectual exchange and constructive cultural dialogue between the Arab world and other cultures and peoples, in a manner that reflects the vision of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince—may God protect them. The Board also reviewed the report from the Award’s General Secretariat, which noted that 226 translated works—spanning 12 languages and nominated by academic institutions, research centers, and individuals from 36 countries—had been submitted to compete for the award in its 11th cycle. The King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Award for Translation is a prestigious global accolade recognizing outstanding works and significant contributions in the field of translation to and from Arabic. Established in October 2006 as an initiative of the King Abdulaziz Public Library, the award seeks to invigorate translation activity between Arabic and other world languages across diverse fields of knowledge—including literature, linguistics, science, and culture—while honoring individuals and institutions that have played a pivotal role in advancing the field. The award’s ten previous editions have been hosted in various Arab and international capitals, including Riyadh, Beijing, Toledo, São Paulo, Geneva, Paris, Casablanca, Berlin, and Cairo. These editions have seen participation from 60 Arab and foreign nations, with over 1,500 nominated works—translated into 41 languages—and a total of 123 winners.
