The Global South Forum awards Faisal bin Muaammar the Prize for Research and Application in Global Development.
The Global South Modernization Forum in China honored H.E. Mr. Faisal bin Abdulrahman bin Muammar, General Supervisor of the King Abdulaziz Public Library, by presenting him with the "Global Development Research and Application Award." This took place during the forum's global conference in Beijing, held under the auspices of the State Council Information Office of China, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Peking University. His Excellency received the award today during the event—a prominent Chinese and international platform dedicated to studying and discussing pathways to modernization and development within Global South nations—attended by international institutions and researchers from around the world. This award recognizes institutions and pioneers who have made distinguished scholarly and practical contributions to modern development, modernization, and international cooperation among Global South countries. It also highlights projects offering innovative, sustainable solutions to development challenges—such as poverty alleviation, environmental protection, infrastructure enhancement, institutional capacity building, and cultural heritage preservation. His Excellency was selected in recognition of his long-standing career in global development and the strengthening of Saudi-Chinese cultural partnerships, as well as his efforts in culture, education, national dialogue, and interfaith and intercultural dialogue. His contributions also include establishing initiatives to prepare young men and women for international engagement, such as the "Salam Project for Cultural Communication." In its statement, the award secretariat noted that this honor reflects H.E. Mr. Bin Muammar’s pioneering role in supporting comprehensive development and building bridges of cultural communication, particularly through his oversight of the establishment of the King Abdulaziz Public Library branch at Peking University. The first Saudi-Arab library within a prestigious Chinese university, and its impact on Arab-Chinese cultural relations; aimed at strengthening ties of knowledge, culture, and civilization, and advancing Arab studies and research at Peking University and other Chinese universities.
