King Abdulaziz Public Library Celebrates Arabic Language on World Arabic Language Day

To celebrate World Arabic Language Day—observed annually on December 18—the King Abdulaziz Public Library in Riyadh launched a series of cultural events. On the evening of Tuesday, December 16, the library hosted a cultural forum titled "The Future of the Arabic Language in Knowledge Spheres: Fostering Linguistic Innovation," in partnership with the King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language. The session featured Dr. Ali bin Mohammed Al-Omari, Dr. Noura bint Ibrahim Al-Khalaf, and Dr. Raeda bint Hassan Al-Maliki, and was moderated by Eng. Tariq Bamsaq. Participants discussed modern language policies that bolster the status of Arabic, language education amidst innovation and digital transformation, the role of language academies in evolving the language to keep pace with the modern era, and the presence of Arabic in the digital realm. On the evening of Thursday, December 18—World Arabic Language Day—the General Supervisor of the King Abdulaziz Public Library is set to inaugurate the "Pulse of Letters" exhibition. Organized by the library in collaboration with the Saudi Art Association (JASFT), the opening will be attended by guests of honor: calligraphers Nasser Al-Maimoon and Mohammed Al-Ajlan, and visual artist Nasser Al-Mousa. The exhibition showcases artworks highlighting the aesthetics, styles, and diverse artistic forms of Arabic calligraphy. It also features visual art pieces that transform Arabic letters into multi-layered icons, rendered with exquisite skill and beauty. The exhibition runs until the evening of Saturday, December 20. In celebration of the Arabic language—which unites us through beauty, identity, and a sense of belonging—the Library’s Children’s Services sector is marking World Arabic Language Day. To commemorate the occasion, the Children’s Book Club is offering special, discounted packages for children aged 2 to 15—specifically the "Discovery," "Imagination," "Leadership," and "Innovation" packages. These initiatives aim to foster a strong bond between children and books, bringing them closer together and ensuring that engaging, age-appropriate books reach young readers. Subscriptions are available via the following link: http://bookclub.kapl.org.sa. Additionally, on the evening of Thursday, December 18 (from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM), the mobile learning resource buses will host children from the Ensan Association at Al-Waha Park in Riyadh.
