The King Abdulaziz Library in Beijing expands its knowledge footprint with 43,000 books.

The King Abdulaziz Public Library Branch at Peking University continues to strengthen its position as one of the most prominent Saudi cultural and knowledge platforms outside the Kingdom, through its growing role in promoting civilizational exchange between Saudi Arabia and China and supporting academic and cultural cooperation between scientific institutions in the two countries.

In recent years, the branch has witnessed significant development in the scale of its programs and initiatives, benefiting from modern technologies and digital solutions to provide knowledge services and facilitate access to information resources. These efforts enhance the experience of researchers and students and improve the efficiency of cultural and knowledge-based activities within the university environment.

Supporting the Arabic Language and Expanding Knowledge Content

As part of its cultural mission, the branch has continued its efforts to support and promote the Arabic language within Chinese academic circles by providing specialized scholarly resources and organizing programs and activities that serve Arabic-language students.

The branch's holdings now exceed 43,000 books, including approximately 34,000 Arabic books, representing 79% of the total collection, in addition to 38,787 e-books and more than 4,814 electronic journals covering a variety of fields, including language, literature, history, politics, economics, and education.

The branch also provides users with access to 31 database resources and 54 specialized sub-databases, further enhancing its ability to serve researchers and students at Peking University and other Chinese academic institutions.

Promoting Saudi Identity and Strengthening Civilizational Dialogue

The branch plays an important role in introducing Saudi identity and highlighting its cultural and civilizational characteristics through its knowledge collections and the events it organizes. This contributes to building a balanced knowledge-based understanding of the Kingdom within the Chinese academic community.

It has also become an active platform for knowledge exchange between universities, cultural institutions, and research centers in China and the Arab world by hosting academic meetings and joint programs that promote cultural dialogue and open new avenues for research cooperation.

Academic Partnerships and International Recognition

As part of its integration with China's academic knowledge system, the branch joined the China Academic Library & Information System (CALIS) in 2018 and subsequently joined the National Foreign Language College Library Consortium in 2022. These memberships have strengthened resource sharing and the development of union catalogs with Chinese academic institutions.

Since 2019, the branch has received the title of Advanced Unit for Foreign Bibliographic Data Development and Advanced Unit for Arabic Bibliographic Data Development from the CALIS Management Center for six consecutive years, in recognition of the quality of its work in organizing and facilitating access to Arabic knowledge in China.

A Knowledge Bridge Between Saudi Arabia and China

Through its diverse programs and initiatives, the King Abdulaziz Public Library Branch at Peking University reaffirms its commitment to continuing its cultural and knowledge mission and strengthening the presence of Saudi Arabia’s cultural and intellectual heritage in China.
